Dry
After 10 years in the Freak’s cellar, the 2014 No.6 has emerged, like a butterfly from a chrysalis, in the spectacular bloom of graceful maturity - but with still a lifetime yet to live. In the glass, the pale golden hue still retains a flash of green at the meniscus, while the bouquet swoops upward with vigour that belies its age. The nose is a rich and decadent smorgasbord of honeyed apricots, peach cobbler, candied lime, fresh rosemary and toasted sourdough, accented by floral top-notes of honeysuckle and lavender. The unctuous richness of the aromatics stand in stark contrast to the tight, linear, and relentlessly driven palate that still retains the vivacity of youth. A steely minerality and tightly wound acid line run the length of the palate, carrying with it the surprisingly fresh and acerbic flavours of lemon and lime juice that still persist. As the palate spirals to a laser focussed finish, the more mature flavours of hot buttered crumpets, honey-glazed cashews and Bickford’s Brown Lime Cordial ease onto the scene with soothing grace. A truly exceptional Riesling experience with many years of enjoyment ahead.
