2019 Rieslingfreak No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling

Winemaker John Hughes has adopted a numbering system for the style of his wines, all from the Clare Valley. This has the quintessential bouquet and flavour of Polish Hill River, a delight now or in the years to come as notes of honey and toast join the citrus/green apple/white peach of today.

2019 Rieslingfreak No.4 Eden Valley Riesling

Its taken time, but I’ve finally become used to John Hughes’ brand name. Here the Meyer lemon/lemongrass flavours of the Eden Valley are correct, even if they have hints of Hunter Valley Semillon, a dreadful accusation for a SA Riesling maker.

2019 Rieslingfreak No.5 Clare Valley Off-Dry Riesling

Bright, fresh and crisp, everything one should enjoy with this off-dry Clare Riesling. As enjoyable tonight as it will be in years to come. John Hughes continues to polish his skills.

2019 Rieslingfreak No.8 Polish Hill River Schatzkammer Riesling

A high-quality wine, appreciably richer and sweeter than its off-dry No.5 sibling. The intense lime/lemon duo will outlive most consumers’ patience – another five years could reveal a wine of startling quality.
