The 2017 Vintage, has to be one of the most exciting vintages I have ever seen with Riesling, and I am going as far to say it is the Riesling Vintage of the century thus far. With a long and cool spring and summer, and the generosity of rain from Mother Nature, the vintage was set for the Riesling vineyards. Riesling is one variety that performs well under cool and wet weather conditions. As a result of Mother Nature, we had ample of water to the vines, creating large vines, big bunches and big berries, the perfect recipe for great Riesling.
By having the cool and wet seasons, we had a latter vintage. The bonus of this was the grapes were on the vine for an extra 3-4 weeks, providing a longer ripening season. As a result we have ended with some very refined and delicate Rieslings, nearly as good as what we see coming out of Germany! The Rieslings from the 2017 vintage can be consumed now, and for those that enjoy aged Riesling, the 2017 Rieslings will stock and reward your cellar over time.
